I believe the stoke for life can be contagious! Today is a new day, one filled with hope and potential. While I know life’s challenges can be overwhelming at times, know that you do not have to walk out this chapter alone! The struggles you face do not have to define you! My name is Josh Holland and I am part of the Coast to Coast Counseling & Wellness team who can support you in your journey!

About Me

I am a Resident in Counseling who holds a certification as a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC). I received my master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling at Regent University. I have experience providing individual and group psychotherapy in both outpatient and acute care inpatient treatment settings. My experience ranges from face-to-face to telemental health settings serving a wide variety of clients ranging in age from pre-adolescent to later adulthood. My primary clinical areas of focus have included anxiety disorders, depression, ADHD, child behavior issues, high functioning autism, grief & loss, stress reduction, life performance development, life transition stress and substance use related disorders. One specific passion of mine is helping individuals and groups listen the grip addiction and substances can have on their lives. Whether they are self-medicating trying to cope or battling with addition or abuse, battles with alcohol and other substances often coexist with other challenges of one’s wellness. My specialized training is designed to help those who want to improve in these areas with effective tools and non-judgmental compassion, addressing core issues, unhealthy coping, and helping to develop the strengths necessary for people to take control of their lives and forge ahead into the future they way.

During our time together, we will get to know each other and together, will customize a plan to help you achieve the goals you have to build a better you, and the future you want. I utilizes a variety of techniques including strength-based strategies, mindfulness, cognitive-behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, eco-therapy, and acceptance and commitment to help individuals reach their goals. I will walk with you through the challenges you face, supporting you every step of the way. I conducts face-to-face and telehealth sessions at Coast to Coast Counseling & Wellness and am involved other therapeutic experiences offered through the practice, including my passion, “Share the Stoke”. Through this outlet, I am able to combine the grounding effect of being in the water with cognitive restructuring, mindfulness-body oriented therapy to help others address emotional dysregulation and anxiety while developing conflidence.

Beyond the Therapy Room

I have extensive experience in early adolescent and adult performance development. As a competitive athlete I am no stranger to the stress and anxiety that can impair performance as well as their antidotes. I have competed locally, nationally, internationally and at a professional level as a surf and stand-up paddle athlete, winning many championships including 4 East Coast Surfing Championship events. I have also brought my passionate love for the water to the autistic community in Virginia Beach for more than 13 years, engaging in eco-therapeutic surf activities to help develop confidence and social skills. I resides in Virginia Beach with wife, son, dog and two cats. I am also passionate about surfing, SCUBA diving, hiking, other outdoor activities that inspire self-care and passionate living.
